When attempted to connect to the share, I get a "Windows cannot access \HOST\homes" error, likely because it is attempting to connect as guest which windows disables by default policy. Passwd chat = *Enter\snew\s*\spassword:* %n\n *Retype\snew\s*\spassword:* %n\n *password\supdated\ssuccessfully*. I see and empty log with the client name. If you want to disable this behavior, look for a homes section in your /etc/samba/smb.conf and comment that entire section out by prefacing each. Since you're logging in as user pi, that's the 'extra' share you're seeing. I have tried to both nameshare and ipshare and neither can connect. By default, samba will create a share for the user you log in as corresponding to that user's home directory. Panic action = /usr/share/samba/panic-action %d I have SMBv1 client enabled on the window10. My smb.conf file is the following: (comments removed) It should work for most non-Windows file. I have the same smb.conf for a raspberry pi zero and it seems to be working fine (though I remember that being a pain as well). Install the avahi package, then enable/start rvice to make the samba server discoverable with Zeroconf. I have also tried writeable yes, I've tried listing space separated individual users. comment Shared Folder path /media/hdd4tb/shares valid users smbusers force group smbusers create mask 0660 directory mask 0771 read only no. Write the following into it (replace username and password) : usernameusername passwordpaswword. Create a smbcred file: nano /home/pi/.smbcred. When I provide the username/pwd for the share, I get the following error: Here is my samba config: Code: Select all. Create a mountpoint for your share: sudo mkdir /media/winshare sudo chown pi:pi /media/winshare. However, I cannot seem to access any of the shares (haven't even started with the usb drive). After you've created the two directories, it's time to mount the external drives to each location. Using this script I was finally able to get the raspberry pi to be visible to the windows computer. At the command line enter the following commands: sudo mkdir /media/USBHDD1. I have an external drive connected to a raspberry pi 4 which I am ultimately trying to connect to from a Windows 10 computer via samba.
